Job Overview (What You’ll Do):

Cotopaxi’s Social Media Manager will be a key leader in driving our brand’s authentic integration into culture, identifying cultural trends, and seizing opportunities to build brand presence. This role is responsible for crafting and executing a comprehensive social strategy, managing an influencer program, and forming innovative partnerships to position Cotopaxi as a leader in impact-driven marketing. With a focus on creative storytelling, community engagement, and visual impact, this role will bring our brand values to life across social platforms, inspiring awareness and fostering a passionate community aligned with Cotopaxi’s mission for sustainability and positive impact.

This role is ideal for a candidate with at least five years of hands-on experience managing social media for consumer-focused brands, ideally in the outdoor or lifestyle industry. They are skilled in storytelling and content creation, and also have a deep understanding of digital trends, social media platforms, and content optimizations. Above all else, this person excels in developing innovative, community-centered social strategies that build brand awareness and loyalty.


Job Responsibilities (How You’ll Do It):

Social Media Strategy

  • Develop and implement a social strategy and roadmap for growth and performance, aligning with brand goals, product launches, and impact initiatives. 
  • Evolve social platform strategy, evaluating our approach where we have a strong presence (Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) and where we need to expand (TikTok, YouTube, etc.).
  • Create and manage the social content calendar, planning, creating, and posting engaging content across platforms including Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn.
  • In partnership with the growth marketing and ecomm teams, oversee and optimize our Meta Shop, and evaluate other social-based shops (i.e., TikTok). 

Content Creation

  • Content Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive social content strategy that aligns with our brand and marketing objectives.
  • Content Production: Oversee and coordinate multimedia content (photos, videos, graphics) that speaks to Cotopaxi’s mission, products, and community.
  • Content Distribution: Collaborate with the brand team to optimize content distribution across channels, including our website, social media, email, etc.

Community Management & Engagement

  • Foster a positive and engaging community by overseeing timely response to comments, direct messages, and user-generated content.
  • Create unique campaigns, challenges, and interactive content to deepen community engagement and brand loyalty.

Ambassador, Influencer & Partnership Collaboration

  • Identify and manage brand ambassadors, building out an annual roster, developing contracts, managing deliverables, and determining the best way to activate with each ambassador. 
  • Build an influencer strategy, identify partners, oversee contracts and product seeding, and work closely with influencers to optimize the assets they create for our brand. 
  • Develop key social partnership campaigns that build brand awareness, amplify key product drops, and position Cotopaxi as a culture leader. 

Performance Management & Reporting

  • Lead the development and execution of social media campaigns to drive awareness, traffic, and engagement.
  • Use Sprout and/or other social media analytics tools to monitor performance, track KPIs, and generate insights for optimizing content and strategy.
  • Provide weekly and monthly reports on KPIs, including impressions, engagement, audience growth, top/bottom performing posts, competitor performance, and the impact of campaigns, sharing learnings with cross-functional teams.
  • Plan, execute, and report on regular A/B testing of different content types or approaches to consistently evolve strategy. 

Trend & Audience Insights

  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends, emerging social media platforms, and competitor strategies.
  • Monitor changes in social media algorithms, best practices, and trends to keep Cotopaxi’s content fresh, relevant, and impactful.
  • Regularly gather insights on Cotopaxi’s audience to refine content and identify new opportunities for engagement and growth.

The Ideal Candidate (What You Need to Succeed):

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or equivalent related experience.
  • 5+ years of social media management experience for consumer-facing brands, ideally with a focus on lifestyle, outdoor, or mission-driven brands.
  • In-depth knowledge of social media, influencer, and digital marketing trends.
  • Skilled in creative management tools and social media management platforms such as Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Dash Hudson, or Tribe.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to juggle multiple initiatives at once.
  • Experience in cross-team collaboration to ideate and deliver successful campaigns.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling abilities, with a focus on community-building.
  • Ability to interpret social media metrics and refine strategies to achieve engagement and growth targets.
  • Demonstrated success in managing influencer partnerships and executing co-branded campaigns.
  • Creative and innovative thinker, skilled in brainstorming and executing original content ideas.
  • Collaborative leader capable of fostering an open, honest and team-oriented work environment.
  • Experience managing a small team, including contractors.
  • Genuine passion for sustainability, social impact and a love for the outdoors.
